Deepika Padukone Counters Salman Khan Statement Of “Luxury Of Being Depressed”; Opens Up On Her Prep For Chhapaak
During her recent interview, Deepika Padukone replied to Salman Khan’s ‘luxury of being depressed’ comment and also opened up on her prep for her upcoming film Chhapaak
Nobody is unaware of Deepika Padukone’s fight with
depression. The actress has often come out in open and spoken about the
struggle she had seen throughout the journey. The Chennai Express actress has,
in fact, founded an organisation to help people with the condition. For the
unversed, Deepika went into depression apparently after her break-up with her
then-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor. The actress is now happily married to Ranveer
Singh.
Deepika Padukone graced the cover of Vogue magazine looking stunning as ever. During her interview with the leading magazine, the actress has once again spoken on her struggle with depression. The Padmaavat actress has also countered Salman Khan’s ‘luxury of being depressed’ statement. She told Vogue, “The word that best describes my experience of depression. Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time.” Replying to Salman’s statement, the dimpled beauty said, “People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star said recently that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if depression is a choice!"
When asked about if she regrets her decision to open up in a fiercely competitive, judgemental industry? She said, “Not at all. I felt such relief afterwards. It was liberating like a crushing weight had been lifted off me. I’d do it all over again. Also, it made me more aware of myself.”
In her long interview, the Bajirao Mastani actress also
spoke about her upcoming film Chhapaak, which is based on real-life acid attack
survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The actress opened up about her role in the film, “I
was bursting to do it. Emotionally, it’s been my toughest role to date. I had
to dig really deep to do Laxmi justice.” “It is an explicitly relevant story.
It’s about so much more: law, justice, survival.” She is ambitious and would
like, I sense, to produce films that tell big stories that encapsulate what it
means to be alive today.”
